WEST Australian Premier Colin Barnett goes proudly by the slogan "Keeping the state moving", but given his propensity to pile even more resource projects on to an already over-stretched economy, he should perhaps add the words "at breakneck speed".
Although unemployment is nudging 4 per cent across the state and the Pilbara faces extreme labour shortages and galloping inflation, Barnett is determined to secure yet another mammoth resource project in the neighbouring Kimberley region.
It's the same in Queensland, where the state government has approved high-risk coal seam gas developments on a huge scale, despite already having strong resource growth from coalmining in the Bowen Basin and on the Darling Downs. Read More
