LABOR is facing another political headache, with independent MP Tony Windsor warning it faces a big test over coal seam gas exploration and announcing plans to broaden commonwealth powers to veto projects.
The independent MP, who the minority Labor government relies on to govern, will introduce legislation next Monday that will allow the commonwealth to intervene and stop projects if there are concerns about the impact on local water supplies.
Mr Windsor's bill would amend the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act and give the commonwealth the ability to intervene using federal corporation powers.
