Town Mine Ban May be Tweaked: Minister

A new ban on mining exploration close to Queensland towns may yet be tightened to include smaller communities, a Bligh Government minister has suggested.

Appearing at an industry conference, Natural Resources Minister Rachel Nolan also warned coal seam gas companies they would have “rocks in their head” if they did not use as many local workers and suppliers as possible.

Premier Anna Bligh yesterday announced a ban on mining exploration within two kilometres of towns with populations up to 1000 in a bid to ease community concerns.   Read More
