THE Bligh Government has been accused of abandoning small towns and farmers by excluding their properties from a ban on mining and gas developments.
The State Government announced it would ask mining companies to give up 285 exploration permits that overlapped towns of more than 1000 people by the end of the year.
The move came as farmers and the Greens were pushing the Federal Government to take a greater role in overseeing coal seam gas developments.
Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott yesterday ruled out supporting a Greens Bill to force miners to gain written consent from farmers before any exploration, despite saying farmers should have the right to say no to exploration on their properties.
"We're not going to support the Greens because the Greens are just against mining full-stop," Mr Abbott said. Read and Watch Video
