SANTOS is spending $10,000 a minute to set up its massive coal-seam gas operation in Queensland, but chief executive David Knox has ruled out using legal action to explore or mine land against the wishes of the property owner.
Mr Knox's unequivocal position, reaffirmed yesterday in an interview with The Weekend Australian, contrasts with that of other major CSG players, which reserve the right to enforce access.
Mr Knox said Santos had worked closely with landholders for more than 40 years, and would step back if a farmer refused the company access. "(Farmers) understand the value of the land, they understand the value of the amenities and we will just continue to negotiate with them in a very reasonable way," he said. Read More
