Queensland Premier Campbell Newman calls Labor 'mining hypocrites'

PREMIER Campbell Newman has accused the Federal Government of hypocrisy, after Environment Minister Tony Burke announced a decision to suspend Queensland's involvement in the Alpha coal project approval process.
Premier Campbell Newman was swift to mount a stinging rebuke, taking a specially crafted question during State Parliament's Question Time so he could lash the Federal Government.

"We have only been in here about 40 or so minutes and somehow Minister Burke can suddenly pull this out of his back pocket," he said.

Mr Newman accused Labor of hypocrisy, saying Federal Resources Minister Martin Ferguson, Prime Minister Julia Gillard and former premier Anna Bligh publicly supported mine development but Mr Burke was pandering to green groups.

"It's time to expose the hypocrisy of Federal Labor on this," Mr Newman said.

"We know that the Federal Government does support it because they've got a mining tax that relies on it and yet Tony Burke wants to shut the resources industry down in Queensland and tend radical green groups."
