A hybrid Savanna Energy drill rig at work on one of Origin Energy’s gas fields.
ORIGIN Energy has produced a four-minute video and posted it on YouTube to highlight the low impact drilling practices it has adopted on its Surat Basin projects.
The video follows a Savanna Energy hybrid coil tubing rig as it completes a coal seam gas well on a property in Origin's Condabri development area near Miles.
The well takes just four days to complete and results in minimal disturbance to the landscape.
It is the first time the purpose-built rigs have been used in Australia.
Their arrival came after Origin spent two years studying best practices in global drilling.
Origin's communications manager (Queensland coal seam gas) Christopher Zipf said the rigs were used to minimise impacts for landowners and the environment.
