A western Queensland mayor says he will be seeking talks with the State Government over coal seam gas (CSG) and its impact on the Great Artesian Basin.
Rural lobby group AgForce says there are 10 companies with tenures in the Galilee Basin, which takes in major rural centres like Longreach and Winton, and exploration is ramping up in many areas.
Winton Mayor Butch Lenton says several western communities depend on the artesian basin for their water supplies, so any development needs to ensure the basin is not affected.
"We want things to develop, we just have to make sure that the things that let us survive out here don't get taken away from us," he said.
"With the regulation, I think we have to make sure that that works properly.
