COUNCILLOR Maxine Brushe was asked last week if the council had decided playing "nice guy" hadn't worked and it was time to be "tougher" on LNG companies.
Her response couldn't have been clearer.
"I think it definitely is," she said.
The question came after Gladstone Regional Council agreed to recommend Arrow Energy be required to pay $25 million to the Gladstone Foundation at the beginning of its project.
There is no doubt councillors have decided to change the game. The atmosphere was one of obvious frustration and councillors clearly felt let down.
Cr Rick Hansen lamented the fact other regions in the LNG footprint had been awarded more than $100 million to invest in social infrastructure to cope with the impacts of the projects, while Gladstone missed out.
