Thousands Sign Hunter CSG Petition

The Hunter Valley Protection Alliance says it has collected 10,000 signatures on a petition opposing coal seam gas extraction in the Broke-Bulga region.

The Alliance is planning to present the petition to either Upper Hunter MP George Souris or Deputy Premier Andrew Stoner within the next fortnight.

President Graeme Gibson says they hope the New South Wales Government will follow the actions taken by other states affected by coal mining and coal seam gas.

"We're hoping that the politicians will honour their pre-election promises and commitments to protect prime agricultural land and to protect the vineyards of the Hunter Valley," he said.
"Just as the West Australian and South Australian Governments have protected their iconic vineyard areas of Barossa, McLaren Vale and Margaret River."
