BIG TURN-OUT: A section of Sunday's rally which attracted more than 2000 people.
IN probably the biggest protest rally since the anti-Club Med days, more than 2000 people joined together at Byron Bay on Sunday to speak out against the coal seam gas industry.
Blessed by glorious spring weather, protesters of all ages gathered at the Butler Street Reserve and marched, chanting slogans, into the CBD where they staged a five-minute sit-down in Lawson Street.
Traffic was blocked behind them, but motorists were able to use one side of the road.
Drivers going past them showed their support by honking horns, with onlookers on footpaths also shouting their support.
