Campbelltown Day of Action Steams Ahead
THE Scenic Hills Association will hold a meeting on Saturday to plan its Campbelltown Day of Action against coal seam gas mining.
The meeting will be used to inform residents of the effects of coal seam gas mining and issues involving the Campbelltown and Camden areas.
The idea for a Campbelltown Day of Action was drawn from the recent LocktheGate Alliance National Day of Action against Coal Seam Gas Mining.
The LocktheGate Alliance’s event on October 16 aimed to put pressure on political parties to adopt policies that would protect food bowls, water resources, environmental areas and communities.
“Maybe by getting people out on the streets here it will impress our MPs to better stand up for the area,” she said. “A lot of people want to feel like they’re doing something so this would be one way for them to show their support.”
The Campbelltown Day of Action will include guest speakers when held.
The Saturday meeting will be held at Campbelltown’s HJ Daley Library from 1pm.
The meeting will also act as a brainstorming session for the Campbelltown Day of Action. More details can be obtained by emailing: info @scenichills.org.au.
Scenic Hills association spokeswoman Jacqui Kirkby said the day of action, expected to be held at the end of November, would be a way of mobilising the public against AGL’s plans to mine for gas in the scenic hills as part of its Camden Gas Project northern expansion.
