Farmers in northern NSW plan to camp out indefinitely at a local property earmarked for coal seam gas exploration, saying they fear the project will contaminate vital water supplies.
About 90 protesting farmers gathered at the rural property near Spring Ridge, on the Liverpool Plains, on Thursday morning.
They say they plan to camp there indefinitely.
Santos, the company behind the "pilot testing", said it had been discussing its plans for the Glasserton site with local farmers for 18 months.
But Caroona Coal Action Group spokesman Tim Duddy said the landowners in the area he had spoken to had not been consulted.
