Embrace the power of positivity and make your voice bigger.
This was the advice NSW Farmers’ Association president Fiona Simson gave to almost 60 Mid-Western Region farmers at a dinner in Gulgong on Monday night.
Ms Simson stressed the importance of “agvocacy” in times of turbulence and complicated legal battles with mining companies.
“‘Agvocacy’ is all about being positive about being a farmer,” she said.
“It’s very easy to get down in the mouth about being a farmer. There are a lot of things against us – if it’s not the weather, then we’ve got mice, we’ve got locusts…and then we’ve got the government.
“We have to start selling that ‘agvocacy’ message otherwise we’re going to start believing ourselves and we’re going to start believing that farming really is a terrible thing, and if we start thinking that then what sort of future do we have for our industry?
