Alan Jones has one more reason to dislike Tim Flannery: Yesterday, the Gillard government climate change commissioner gave his tick of approval to coal seam gas.
Less than a week after Jones, one of Australia's most powerful megaphones, gave a 45-minute long impassioned plea to the National Press Club in Canberra warning of the dangers of coal seam gas, Flannery told a NSW Minerals Council meeting in Wollongong that opposition to CSG could lead to "social dislocation".
Flannery said that opposition to CSG could not be entirely justified because "the industry has been characterised on the basis of the worst performers," according to The Australian.
But although Flannery said mining was "utterly necessary" to the Australian way of life, he did make what some might consider a Freudian slip during his speech.
According to the Illawarra Mercury, Flannery raised eyebrows when he spoke of the need for a future "enemy mix" before correcting the comment to "energy mix".
Meanwhile Nikki Williams, the chief executive of NSW Minerals Council is unlikely to get much airtime on Alan Jones' show either. She said that framing the CSG debate as about the "right to eat" versus the "right to mine" was damaging the industry.
Editor's Note: I dont like the Carbon TAX and I dont like Coal Seam Gas Mining. This is the bloke who gave his tick of approval to the Prime Minister on both of these Toxic Issues.
I bet that neither of these issues will touch him or his family...not like the majority of us who will have to deal with yet another tax that will do nothing for the environment or have Gas companies knocking at the front door with a smile on their corporate faces ready to decimate the land that we own, cherish and produce our countries food on.
Enemy Mix - he's got it in one: he's right in it. SQUAWK!! SQUAWK!!
