Dear friends in Melbourne,
The rapidly expanding coal seam gas industry could permanently damage our precious groundwater and aquifers, and has already made regional QLD and NSW a mess of wells, roads, and holding ponds. Coal seam gas mining hasn’t yet gained a foothold in Victoria, but exploration is already underway.
With little reassurance that coal seam gas mining won’t affect our water, land, environment and health, locals around Victoria have joined the movement of people around the country who are concerned about the rapid growth of the coal seam gas industry.
That’s why our friends at Lock the Gate and Friends of the Earth have organised a series of forums to discuss coal seam gas and coal mining in Victoria and this Wednesday night, there’s one near you:
What: Forum on coal seam gas mining in Victoria
When: This Friday, 7 October, 7.30pm
Where: New Council Chambers, Trades Hall, cnr Lygon and Victoria Streets,
When: This Friday, 7 October, 7.30pm
Where: New Council Chambers, Trades Hall, cnr Lygon and Victoria Streets,
Carlton
Speakers: Drew Hutton (Lock the Gate), Marion Carey (Doctors for the Environment), Michael Power (Law Reform Lawyer, Environmental Defenders Office), Gavin Mudd (Department of Civil Engineering, Monash University).
Whether you’d like to learn more, meet with others who are already concerned, or you’re just curious about what this means for Victoria, we’d love to see you there.
Hope you can make it along,
Justine, on behalf of the GetUp team.
