TAKING TO THE STREETS: Great Lakes Councillor Linda Gill was one of 4000 people to march to Parliament House in Sydney protesting against Coal Seam Gas mining in NSW on May 1.
GREAT Lakes Councillor Linda Gill was one of 4000 people to attend the much publicised rally opposing Coal Seam Gas Mining held in Sydney last week.
The Great Lakes, Taree and Gloucester communities were extremely well represented in the rally that started in Martin Plaza and then marched to NSW Parliament House.
“I joined a Forster Coach at Bulahdelah, with many other concerned locals from the Great Lakes and Taree areas. I believe that every local government area was represented, from the coast to the western boarders, from rural, regional and city areas, all over NSW,” Cr Gill said.
“The president of the NSW Farmers, Fiona Simson and peak environment groups estimated up to 10,000 people, including farmers, conservationists, wine makers, tourism operators and concerned residents of country and metropolitan areas of NSW attended the rally.”
For the first time in 90 years, the Country Women’s Association joined the protest because of their concerns regarding the major risks surrounding the mining of Coal Seam Gas.
