The Queensland Gas Company (QGC) has suspended operations at one of its drilling rigs in the state's southwest after detecting a gas leak.
A 150-metre exclusion zone was established around the Surat Basin rig as a precaution late on Saturday night.
The incident occurred during drilling of the Argyle 162 well, about 25km southwest of Chinchilla, on a QGC-owned property.
QGC senior vice president Jim Knudsen said engineers were working to resolve the problem.
Mr Knudsen said QGC had advised the Queensland Petroleum and Gas Inspectorate and neighbouring landholders.
"Nobody has been hurt and the leak is not considered to pose any significant safety risk," he said in a statement
