A new report suggests more than 500 water bores on farms across Queensland's southern inland will be affected by the coal seam gas (CSG) industry.
Critics of the CSG sector say the process has an adverse impact on underground acquifers and have repeatedly called for a moratorium on further extraction.
This morning, the Queensland Water Commission (QWC) released what it says is the first definitive analysis of how the gas mining boom is affecting water in the Surat Basin.
It monitored 21,000 private bores and found water levels in 85 will drop by up to a metre within three years, with more than 520 affected in the long-term.
