Calls to stop coal seam gas mining

ABOUT 20 members of the Stop CSG Sydney Water Catchment Alliance, which formed in Oakdale, protested against coal seem gas mining at the Protect our Water and Land rally last Tuesday at Parliament House.

Thousands flocked to Sydney's Martin Place, calling on the state government to protect land and water resources from coal seam gas mining.

Stop CSG Sydney Water Catchment Alliance president Brett Cottee, who attended the rally, said the alliance's numbers had grown to 150 members in recent weeks in an attempt to stop any form of mining in Sydney's catchment areas.

"This is the water we drink and they're just going to throw poison at us," he said.

"There should be no coal seam gas or any mining in the catchment."

Mr Cottee said the whole of Sydney needed to stand up and take notice of mining projects in catchment areas.
