ELLIE Smith hopes the documentary Bimblebox will help change the way people think about fossil-fuel mining, but she is more confident that economics will defeat billionaire Clive Palmer's plans for the Galilee Basin.
The Eudlo-raised Ms Smith, who has a background in not-for-profit management and environmental science, is the associate producer of the film, which will be shown in Nambour on Saturday and Noosa on May 25.
Directed by Mike O'Connell, the documentary looks not just at the threat of mining to the 8000ha registered Nature Refuge, but also examines the long-term impact it has had on the Hunter Valley and Illawarra.
Mr Palmer's China First project would gobble up the Bimblebox Nature Reserve, bought in 2000 by a small group of concerned land holders and residents wanting to save it and the remnant vegetation that covers 95% of the site.
