The expiry of an exploration licence on the New South Wales north coast won't disrupt Metgasco's operations.
Metgasco says its operations in the Casino area will not be disrupted by the expiry of a licence.
An exploration licence issued in November of 1995 for an area 36 kilometres west-south-west of Lismore expired over the weekend.
Metgasco has issued a statement saying state legislation allows a petroleum licence to remain valid until it is renewed or otherwise.
"Metgasco's position is not unique in NSW, with no new licences or licences renewed under this government," the statement read.
"The NSW Government is committed to the development of the gas industry in this state, with the minister stating last week, 'we (the state) remain heavily dependent upon declining (gas) import reserves meaning domestic production is crucial to ensuring security of supply.'
