THE Lock the Gate Alliance today called on the Premier Campbell Newman to remove Mr John Cotter as the head of the newly-created Gasfield Commission since he clearly did not have the support of the farming community.
This situation has come to a head with letters to the editor of Queensland Country Life from key farming identities on the Darling Downs objecting to the appointment of Mr Cotter and his claim that, as chair of the Surat Basin CSG Engagement Group, he had resolved "issues of ground water, land access, confidentiality and compensation."
Chairman of the Basin Sustainability Alliance Ian Hayllor, and other members of the BSA, all wrote letters rejecting these claims, stating the industry was still a long way off resolving any of its major difficulties with landowners and that Mr Cotter's claims were false.
