A GROUP of Wollondilly residents have forged an alliance in a move to stop coal seam gas projects from contaminating Warragamba's water catchment.
The alliance, which is yet to be named, was formed to stop all forms of coal seam gas mining in the Warragamba's water catchment.
Hilton Gibbs of The Oaks has been appointed president of the group, which has 11 members.
He said there was no proven science coal seam gas mining did not have any health effects.
"It's a ludicrous situation that the [state] government has allowed exploration in the Sydney water catchment," he said about recent mining activity in Oakdale.
"They can't assure us, so why take the risk? There's too many unknowns."
The recent exploration licence that allowed Apex Energy drilling on Oakdale's Steveys Forest Road was granted in 2007 by the then Labor government.
