Camberwell open-cut mine plan revived

A CONTROVERSIAL open-cut mine proposal rejected by the independent Planning Assessment Commission over health and water concerns has been revived after a court quashed the refusal.

The commission will reconsider Ashton Coal’s south-east open-cut project proposed near the village of Camberwell and another public meeting will be held to discuss it.
 
The commission rejected the proposal in December last year, following objections by the Office of Water and NSW Health over its noise, dust and water impacts.
 
The NSW Department of Planning had twice recommended the project for approval before the commission rejected it.
