Farmers have demanded they gain power of veto over coal-seam gas and other mining activities on their land.
The Victorian Farmers Federation recently adopted a policy that enshrines every farmer’s right to control mining on their land.
“It’s all about farmers’ rights,” VFF Land Management Committee Chair Gerald Leach said.
“The government has already given landholders within two kilometres of proposed wind turbine developments an effective power of veto over their construction. Why shouldn’t they do the same for landholders on coal seam gas and other mining developments?”
