New gas-fired power station approved

AGL Energy has confirmed the State Government has approved the development of a $600 million gas-fired power station in south-western Victoria.

Planning Minister Matthew Guy has permitted an amendment to a local planning scheme that will allow the facility to be built at Tarrone, north of Port Fairy.

The 480 megawatt power station will be located close to Origin Energy's Mortlake Power gas-fired power plant, which began operating earlier this year.
