Pilliga Survey Finds Threatened Species: Audio

If you're a fan of cute animal pictures, then here's a few to look at. There's the Pilliga mouse, an Eastern Pygmy possum and a not so attractive, pale headed snake.

They're all listed as vulnerable animals, and all found in the Pilliga Forest near Narrabri, where there are plans to mine for gas.

In fact, a recent survey commissioned by the Northern Inland Council for the Environment has apparently identified at least 20 threatened species.

Five independant scientists spent a week in the forest, looking for animal species in an area that has been identified as a potential coal seam gas field by Eastern Star Gas.
