Greens to Push for Coal Seam Gas Bans

THE Tasmanian Greens will introduce legislation into State Parliament to ban coal seam gas extraction in Tasmania, primary industries spokesman Kim Booth said yesterday.

Mr Booth said he was unable to say exactly when the legislation would be tabled but that it would be soon.
A community meeting in Deloraine on Friday night attracted 50 residents concerned about hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking", used to extract coal seam gas.
Fracking is the process of initiating a fracture in a rock layer by means of a pressurised fluid to release petroleum, natural gas, coal seam gas or other substances for extraction.
