Farmers would be shocked to hear the state government describe as "essential" the coexistence between agriculture and the controversial coal seam gas industry, the NSW Greens say.
In its submission to a parliamentary inquiry into the coal seam gas industry, released on Wednesday, the NSW government acknowledged community concerns about its potential impact on water supplies and food production.
However, the government said "balanced co-existence of mining (including CSG) and agriculture is not only possible, it is essential".
