The Finch That Ate Clive, and Other Miner Nightmares

It's been a rough week for mining. First Alan Jones at the Press Club, and now the revelation that Clive Palmer's plans for a $1 billion open-cut coal mine in a Queensland nature reserve could be derailed by a local colony of black-throated finches.

Jones v Coal Seam Gas will be a case fought out in the court of popular opinion.

But Black Throated Finch v Noisy Miner will be a much more formal affair.

Anti-development arguments that are about people are much less comprehensively regulated by the Federal Government than are arguments about endangered species.
