THE Gillard government has given the green light to the expansion of BHP Billiton's giant Olympic Dam uranium and copper mine in South Australia.
The South Australian and Northern Territory governments have also given a tick of approval to what is set to be the world's biggest open-cut mine, after assessing the mining giant's environmental impact statement.
The approval requires BHP to commit to more than 150 conditions and obtain more than 600 licences and approvals.
