OPPONENTS of coal seam gas mining will hold 25 protest rallies around NSW and Queensland tomorrow as new figures suggest communities in affected areas are open to the economic benefits of CSG.
Research by pollsters Crosby Textor, conducted in 1000 households in regional NSW and Queensland, has found 49 per cent of respondents totally support CSG - which involves extracting water from coal seams to de-pressurise them and release gas - while 38 per cent were totally against.
The poll was commissioned by the Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association, an industry lobby.
