The angst surrounding coal seam gas development in areas like the Hunter Valley is expected to dominate discussion at the New South Wales Nationals conference getting underway today.
Delegates have converged on Port Macquarie for the annual conference.
Deputy Premier and state Nationals leader, Andrew Stoner says competing land use pressures will be high on the agenda.
"Our farmers are quite right to want guarantees around the effects that mining and coal seam gas extraction would have on their land," he said.
"Now this is an issue that is pretty hot right across not only New South Wales but other jurisdictions like Queensland right now so I would expect there will be a fair amount of the conference debate focussed on this particular issue."
