A southeast Queensland mine has been ordered to suspend blasting pending an investigation into an explosion that spewed toxic fumes beyond the limits of a safety zone.
New Hope Coal's New Acland mine, on the Darling Downs, was today issued with the directive under the Queensland Coal Mining Safety and Health Act.
"The directive suspending blasting operations will remain in place until mine management can demonstrate ... it has implemented actions to ensure blasting operations are conducted at an acceptable level of risk," a statement from the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation said.
