Legislation to ban mining in the environmentally sensitive Arkaroola Sanctuary in South Australia's Flinders Ranges is to be introduced to state parliament.
Premier Mike Rann said the government had proposed a three-step process to protect the area from mining for all time.
This included excluding the area from the state's Mining Act, special legislation to provide protection for the sanctuary, and a bid to have it nominated for world heritage listing.
