Angry Farmers Threaten to Snub Land-use Conflicts Group

A GROUP established to manage land use conflicts over mining and coal seam gas exploration in NSW is at risk of collapse, with farmers warning they will walk away if the process does not live up to the O'Farrell government's election commitments.

In a leaked briefing paper sent to fellow members of the group, intended to advise the government on the rules regulating how and where coal seam gas and coal mining will be allowed, the NSW Farmers Association voices its frustration with the process.

''NSW Farmers has invested considerable time, effort and expense in negotiating what we believed to be a sensible policy to improve the balance between the mining and coal seam industries and competing land uses,'' it says.
