BROADCASTER Alan Jones has turned the focus of his fight for farmers to the city, claiming Sydney's water supply is under threat from pollution caused by gas companies.
After recent tours of farming towns in NSW and Queensland, Mr Jones yesterday used an address on food security to the National Press Club in Canberra to ramp up his campaign in the agriculture-versus-mining debate.
Accusing the major parties and governments of being in bed with miners, he called for a moratorium on coal-seam gas development and exploration and the introduction of health and food security impact statements on top of the current environmental assessments on new projects.
Mr Jones said it was disgraceful prime agricultural land in the Gunnedah Basin and Hunter Valley had been pillaged by mining and coal seam gas companies at the expense of farmers.
