City folk just do not understand farmers - that's the issue that comes to the fore as the National Farmers' Federation (NFF) develops its Blueprint for Australian Agriculture.
Work on the blueprint, which is intended to map agriculture's future path, started last October.
NFF president Jock Laurie says the consultation phase for the blueprint is likely to be largely completed by the end of June.
"The issue that is frustrating the industry as much as anything else is the sheer lack of understanding of agriculture," Mr Laurie told AAP.
"The disconnect between city people and country people, the lack of understanding of the industry and where it has historically fitted into the Australian economy and the Australian community, the role that it has to play in the future."
Mr Laurie said meetings of farmers and interested parties had been held across mainland Australia with Tasmania still to come, since the blueprint development process was launched.
The NFF's online survey for the blueprint had attracted more than 1,000 responses.
