Manning protestors join rally against strategic regional land use policy

MANNING Alliance will join the state-wide protest in Sydney on May 1, organised by the NSW Farmers to oppose the O’Farrell Government’s backflip on the strategic regional land use policy which the Liberals and Nationals took to the last State election.

The alliance will be organising buses for Manning people wishing to join this peaceful protest.
Chairman of the Manning Alliance, Mr Peter Epov said local National Party MPs Stephen Bromhead and Leslie Williams electioneered and paraded the strategic land use policy as the defining document that would determine where and how mining and farming would co-exist in NSW.

“Since the election they have both crusaded on the merits of the Liberals and Nationals 2011 strategic regional land use policy, lauding it as the policy that would isolate and protect prime farming land from mining.

“In early March the NSW government brutally capitulated to mining interests and the land use policy, which actually took two years in the making through a series of delicate negotiations with farming and mining groups, was abruptly dumped for a new plan that will now effectively expose the entire State or at least 96 per cent to mining.”
