THE Country Women’s Association of NSW is the latest organisation to support a rally taking place next month to call for tighter regulation on coal seam gas mining.
Protesting the state government’s Strategic Regional Land Use policy, representatives from the 10,000-strong organisation will march shoulder-to-shoulder with interest groups including GetUp! and the Nature Conservation Council when they converge on state parliament on May 1.
CWA state president Elaine Armstrong said the organisation felt passionate about its involvement due to its long association with the land.
“We are non-party political but we feel it’s time for better protection of the environment and more regulation concerning overseas interests by the government,” Mrs Armstrong said.
“Coal seam gas mining could possibly contaminate fertile land, contaminate groundwater and cause a great deal of disruption to nearby communities.”
