Arrow start-up costs cause a $294m loss

SHELL and PetroChina have logged a $294 million full-year loss from their Queensland coal-seam gas joint venture as they continue to pour cash into a $20 billion gas export plant on Gladstone's Curtis Island.
The loss was revealed in last year's financial reports, lodged with ASIC last month by the pair's 50-50 Arrow Energy joint venture. The reports also said eight environmental incidents were reported to the Queensland government last year, one of which was potentially harmful.

"In seven out of the eight cases, no environmental harm was caused," Arrow said.
