Community and environment groups will protest outside Parklands Resort tomorrow as part of a “people’s confercnce” being held as an alternative to the Mudgee Mining conference.
Organised by a coalition of local environment and community groups, “Mudgee Mining: the wHole Story”, will feature two days of events focusing on mining and coal seam gas issues in the Mid-Western Region.
Buses taking rally participants to Parklands Resort will leave Lawson Park at 10.30am.
From 11am, speakers including Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham, Dave Burgess of the Total Environment Centre, David Clarke from NSW Farmers Association, Craig Shaw from Bylong Valley Protection Alliance (BVPA), Jolieske Lips from the Running Stream Water Users Association (RSWUA), Terry McBride from Beyond Zero Emissions will address the rally.
Participants will march back to Lawson Park for a free conference from 2pm to 5pm, where author Paul Cleary, Landowner and hydrologist Julia Imrie, NSW Nature Conservation Council CEO Pepe Clark, Lithgow GP Richard Stile of Doctors for the Environment Australia, and a representative of Mid-Western Regional Council will address the audience.
Farmers, winemakers, tourism industry representatives and members of Barnardos will participate in a panel discussion on the topic “Our vision: Mudgee 2050”.
