The Central Downs Irrigators group in southern Queensland says more research is needed to back Arrow Energy's claims its gas project will have minimal impact on local aquifers.
Arrow Energy wants to sink more than 7,500 wells in the Surat Basin by 2035.
Its environmental impact statement (EIS) says that will have little effect on groundwater systems because the company will reuse the water that is released in coal seam gas (CSG) production.
Central Downs chairman Graham Clapham says that is not an ironclad guarantee.
