The Moranbah Action Group, south-west of Mackay in north Queensland, says nearly 400 people attended a weekend rally against large fly-in, fly-out mining workforces.
Chairwoman Kelly Vea Vea says the crowd was also lobbying for more affordable family housing.
BMA says it will apply for a 100 per cent fly-in, fly-out workforce at its Caval Ridge mine near Moranbah.
Ms Vea Vea says its a problem for the entire Bowen Basin.
"We had representatives there from Collinsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Moura, Dysart," she said.
"The issues that we're confronting in in Moranbah are are quite common across the whole region and I think it's really important for mining companies and the State Government to recognise the region is united on these issues."
She says the group will continue to lobby for local workers.
