Oil and gas explorer AWE will employ the controversial fracking technique on three of its wells in Western Australia in July.
According to the ABC the company has received State Government approval for its operations in the Perth Basin and has confirmed it has the necessary equipment.
The move follows Norwest Energy's confirmation it too would start a fracking operation in WA in June.
PerthNow reports the company has locked in fracking for its Arrowsmith-2 shale gas well, located in an agricultural region.
Earlier this month the WA Government gave fracking the Green light, with Environment Minister Bill Marmion upholding a decision by the Environment Protection Agency to support the technology.
