Katter candidates join CSG protest in Qld

A Katter's Australian Party candidate says he is prepared to be arrested at a coal seam gas protest.

Peter Pyke, a former police officer running for the Katter party, will join other anti-CSG campaigners at a blockade at Toowoomba, west of Brisbane, on Tuesday.

Mr Pyke said protesters wanted to shut down the CSG site, which was being used to train drilling staff for future CSG projects on the Darling Downs.
The Katter party's candidate for Toowoomba North said CSG activities were of great concern to local farmers, who were worried about water contamination and the loss of prime agricultural land.

"It's poisonous to our underground water," he told AAP.

"There are huge health issues with CSG."

Katter's Australian Party is going to Saturday's election on an anti-CSG platform. It wants a 12-month moratorium on all new CSG projects and a review of existing ones.
