One of Australia's largest underground coal mining contractors has posted a half year profit of $7.84 million dollars for the six months ending December 31, 2011.
During that period Mackay-based group Mastermyne's workforce has increased to more than 1,000 employees.
To fill the skilled workers gap in both its Queensland and New South Wales mines, the company has sourced workers from Poland.
Mastermyne's managing director Tony Caruso says it's a strong half year performance.
"Most of that came through from our existing project base," he said.
"We have 10 major projects that operate in Queensland and NSW and what we saw was a lot of that organic growth come through so we were able to our grow our business without winning any new projects this year.
"Around about 68 per cent is our topline growth so revenue from the previous corresponding period."
Mastermyne plans on sourcing another 60 foreign miners this year from Poland and South Africa.

Editor's Note: One of Bligh's initiatives while in government was to create jobs for the people of Queensland. If this is the case, how come Mastermyne is allowed to bring into Queensland another 60 mine workers from Poland and South Africa??? 24 March - and our memories are long.
