Hunter River coal crossing

WORRIED: Farmer Ian Moore on his property in Apple Tree Flat near Jerrys Plains. He is concerned the planned Doyles Creek mine will affect underground water.

NUCOAL is considering using Hunter River crossings, above and below ground, to move coal from its proposed Doyles Creek mine.

Plans for the controversial mine, near Jerrys Plains in the Upper Hunter, including details of an accompanying training school for up to 100 students, have been released to the Australian Stock Exchange.

The company says one option is to take coal by conveyor from the mine infrastructure area, about one kilometre from Jerrys Plains, and across the Hunter River, either on the surface or through a tunnel under the river.

Under this option, the coal would be loaded on to rail at Antiene, 25kilometres away.

The final route will be presented and assessed in the project’s environmental impact statement, which NuCoal expects to be available within a year.

The release of the project overview is part of the first stage of the approval application process.
