Campbell Newman Sparks CSG Fee Fears

CAMPBELL Newman risks alienating two core constituencies in Queensland, with farmers and the resource sector opposing plans for a Liberal National Party government to force the disclosure of all access fees paid by coal-seam gas companies to landholders.

Announcing the LNP's resource and energy strategy, Mr Newman said his party would make it mandatory for the payments, compensating landholders for CSG wells to operate on their properties, to be made public.

Mr Newman said existing laws, requiring payments to be publicly disclosed only with the agreement of farmers, had caused anxiety in rural communities, with neighbours unaware of how much each was being paid and suspicious of being ripped off.
